Since 2006, Carlberg Associates’ Senior Arborist, Christy Cuba, has been the lead arborist for the Avanti (Village at Calabasas) project. This 200,000+ square-foot mixed-use redevelopment project is located in the heart of Calabasas. Surrounded by a variety of well-established land uses and environmentally sensitive habitat in McCoy Canyon Creek, this high-profile project experienced numerous design revisions before final approval in 2013. Following the stringent guidelines of the City of Calabasas’s oak tree protection ordinance and Oak Tree Protection and Preservation Guidelines, Ms. Cuba was responsible for the oak tree survey, impact analysis, value assessments, and mitigation recommendations for over 150 oak trees.
Ms. Cuba provided peer review of the City’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that addressed oak woodland resources and assisted with the response to comments on oak habitat issues for the Final EIR. Ms. Cuba represented D2 Development and The New Home Company at public and Planning Commission meetings. Carlberg Associates will continue to act as project arborist throughout the construction and long-term mitigation implementation phases for this long-awaited project.
